Since 1922, San Francisco-based Golden Bear has been crafting some of the best American-made outerwear available. In the brand’s early days, it produced leather-collared coats for longshoremen working the docks of the San Francisco Bay. Through the mid-century, the product offering expanded to include bomber jackets, varsity jackets and motorcycle jackets. The brand also makes jackets for the San Francisco Police Department and for the SF Giants when they win the World Series. And in an era when many heritage brands have offshored manufacturing, all of Golden Bear’s durable jackets are still cut and sewn in San Francisco.

That rich history and commitment to quality manufacturing caught the attention of New York designer Todd Snyder. Along with producing his own line of wardrobe essentials, Snyder is known for collaborating with a range of heritage brands, producing exclusive garments to complement his in-house apparel. So it’s no surprise that Snyder worked with Golden Bear on an elevated version of the brand’s iconic bomber.

The fully-lined jacket features an olive satin shell and a removable shearling collar. Typical to the style, the design has two button-flap pockets and a ribbed hem and cuffs. The closure — a rugged two-way zipper — adds necessary functionality. Available in sizes S through XL, it’s currently on sale for $449. For an American-made jacket of this caliber, that’s a very fair price and well worth checking out.
