Unimatic X MIHARA YASUHIRO
A Japanese Designer and an Italian Watch Manufacturer Teamed Up On This Beautiful Dive Watch
Unimatic is an Italian brand that melds serious tool watch manufacturing with a sleek, modernist design sensibility. Their U1 line of modern dive watches is one of our favorites, and with its minimalist aesthetic, it forms the perfect base on which to form special editions, of which there have been several.
The latest (and possibly most striking) collaboration using the U1 as a base is the Modello Uno U1-MY, a special edition of 50 pieces made in collaboration with Japanese streetwear designer Mihara Yasuhiro. Yasuhiro’s version of the U1 features a navy blue matte dial with creamy, “old radium”-style markers done up in Super LumiNova, an aluminum bezel insert in navy blue, and, coolest of all, a stonewashed blue case that’s been coated with Cerakote, a ceramic coating typically used on firearms. The coating process leaves each watch looking broken-in and unique, like a pair of well-worn denim.
In case this is your first time seeing a U1, the watch’s case is 40mm wide and water-resistant to 300m. It features a 2.5mm double-domed sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating and the Seiko automatic NH35A movement with hacking seconds and bi-directional winding. The U1-MY ships with a dark navy cordovan shell two piece strap and a navy blue nylon two-piece strap.
The individually-numbered U1-MY is a limited edition of 50 pieces, and is supposedly already sold out in Mihara Yasuhiro’s stores in Tokyo and Osaka — though there still seems to be stock on the Mihara Yasuhiro website.
