Starting at Just $20

The Best DIY Security System Might Also Be the Cheapest

May 3, 2019 Tech By

Wyze, the company behind one of our favorite smart security cameras (the $20 WyzeCam has essentially the same abilities as its way-more-expensive competitors by Amazon and Nest), just announced a new DIY smart alarms system that’s equally as inexpensive.

The Wyze Sense costs $20 and consists of two contact sensors (for doors or windows), a motion sensor and the Wyze Bridge, a device that plugs into the back of one of your Wyze security cameras, either a WyzeCam or a Wyze Cam Pan. For this reason, the system only makes sense for those who already have an existing Wyze security camera.

The gist of the system is that whenever motion is detected or a sensor is triggered, you’ll get a push notification on your smartphone. Also, the cameras will also start recording. The sensors can also let you know when you’ve left a door or window open for a “longer than normal” period of time. Like with cameras, you can set schedules in the Wyze app so you’re not getting these notifications while you’re home, too.

The Wyze Sense unites everything into one security system, and it’s easy to install. No wires. No drilling. It’s all app-based. For those who already pre-ordered the Wyze Sense, it will start shipping on May 7th. If you haven’t ordered yet, you can sign up and get notified via email when more units become available.
