Hublot Big Bang Unico Sorai
This Watch Supports an Important Conservation Cause
Hublot’s newest chronograph, the Big Bang UNICO SORAI, is the result of a partnership between the Swiss watchmaker and Kevin Pietersen of SORAI (Save Our Rhino Africa/India). Rhinoceros face extinction from poaching and up to two third of their numbers may disappear in our lifetime, the result of trade of their horn, which, though composed of keratin and devoid of medicinal value, is believed to cure diseases and is seen as a sign of wealth. Hublot is hoping to help counter this threat by donating a large portion of funds raised from the sales of its new timepiece to the South African National Parks agency to help them monitor the rhinos’ natural habitat, and to Care for Wild, for the care of orphaned baby rhinos.
The watch itself, a limited edition of 100, is a 45mm ceramic-dial chronograph in sand color, inspired by the African bush and adorned with the image of a white rhinoceros. It features the UNICO Manufacture self-winding chronograph movement with 72-hour power reserve and 38 jewels, 100m of water resistance, and ships with either a matching fabric strap or a vulcanized rubber model with camouflage decor. MSRP for the Big Bang UNICO SORAI is $24,100.
