The Best Entry-Level Smartwatch

The Apple Watch Series 3 Is the Cheapest It’s Ever Been

October 18, 2019 Deals By

Last month, Apple released the Apple Watch Series 5, announced that it was going to stop selling the Series 4, and then it dropped the price of its now-two-year-old Series 3 from $279 to $200. Basically, if you didn’t want to spend $400 (or more) on a Series 5, with its cool new features and always-on display, the Series 3 was the best and by far the cheapest entry-level smartwatch that any iPhone user should buy. And right now it’s cheaper than it has ever been.

Amazon is selling the Apple Watch Series 3 (38mm) for $189, with either a white or black sports band, which is an extra $10 lower than what Apple is selling it for. It’s the cheapest that the Series 3 has ever been, making right now a great time to buy for anybody in the market for their first Apple Watch. The catch is that this on-sale Series 3 is only available in a 38mm model, meaning you probably need to have a small wrist to wear it. (The 42mm model is not on sale, and is selling for $229 on both Amazon and Apple.)

Obviously, the Series 3 is not Apple’s latest and greatest smartwatch; that title belongs to the Series 5.

The Series 5 has a faster processor, larger and always-on display and it comes with a little more health features (like fall detection and a built-in EKG), but the Series 3 is still a very good smartwatch. It runs on the same WatchOS and, frankly, most entry-level smartwatch users will use either Apple Watch (Series 3, Series 4 or Series 5) the same way. There’s also the fact the Series 4 is considerably more expensive than the Series 3; Apple is selling the 40mm model starting at $399.
