REI Is Closed on Black Friday — Here’s Where to Get Your Outdoor Deals Fix Instead
Just about every retailer looks at Black Friday/Cyber Monday as an opportunity to clear out old inventory and juice revenue with competitive sales. One of the largest sellers of outdoor equipment, however, sees things differently.
Since 2015, REI has counterprogrammed with its #OptOutside initiative, not only closing its (actual and virtual) doors on Black Friday, but paying its 13,000-plus employees to get out and make an environmental difference. Partnering with United By Blue and Leave No Trace, REI organizes more than 80 public cleanup events across the country. It’s a really cool program, and we’ll likely be writing more about it in the weeks to come.
However, if the Black Friday bug has bitten you, options abound for scoring awesome gear to help you get outside to explore this great wide world — and burn off some of that turkey and stuffing. While many brands and retailers have yet to give us the go-ahead to publicize their sales, what follows are varying details on five we are cleared to share, plus one very cool promotion that makes getting out even easier…
