Triumph Reveals 2 New Tigers Made for Extreme Adventures

January 24, 2020 Cars By

When it comes time to leave regular life behind and explore the world, few vehicles can deliver the freedom of an adventure bike. Triumph’s Tiger 1200 models are among the best of the breed, offering incredible capability along with the style you’d expect from the fabled British brand.

The Tiger 1200s were all-new for 2018, but to freshen up the lineup for 2020, Triumph has added a pair of variants named after (and to some degree, made for) trekking off into specific environments: The Triumph Tiger 1200 Desert Edition and Tiger 1200 Alpine Edition.

The Tiger 1200 Desert Edition, based on the Tiger 1200 XCx, adds on a Darude Sandstorm paint job with Desert Edition graphics, as well as Triumph Shift Assist to provide clutchless shifts and a lightweight Arrow titanium silencer. The Alpine Edition, based on the Tiger XR, also offers those mechanical add-ons, though it comes clad in Snowdonia White paint and Alpine Edition graphics. Both bikes also score “SE” badges on their radiators.

Otherwise, the two special edition Tigers are largely identical. Both come equipped with the brand’s 1,215-cc triple making 139 horsepower and 90 pound-feet of torque, connected to the rear wheel through a six-speed transmission. Triumph’s Semi-Active Suspension comes standard, with both Auto and Off-Road modes ready to control the dampers. Keyless ignition, cruise control, a full-color TFT instrument panel, ABS and traction control and multiple riding modes for the powertrain all help make life easier for the rider, whether on the road or the trail.

Triumph’s press release didn’t mention an on-sale date, but both bikes are already on the company’s U.S. website, so we’re betting you can grab them extremely soon.
