Oris Big Crown ProPilot
These Pilot’s Watches Have Been Redesigned for Better Fit and Wearability
Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
Sometimes overshadowed by Oris’s popular collections of dive watches and the like, the brand’s aviation-themed ProPilot has a serious tool watch vibe. Now, it’s most basic and accessible versions are getting some subtle design upgrades for better wearability than ever. Most notably, the new models will have a “slimmer profile,” but more little tweaks help make the design feel even more refined.
The two models to get this treatment are both simple automatic models offering three-hand time-telling using Swiss Sellita movements. The Big Crown ProPilot Big Date is 41mm wide and offers a date window at 3 o’clock, where as the Big Crown ProPilot Big Day Date also offers the day of the week and now comes in a 44mm case. Both still feature a distinctive knurled bezel and crown.
The case, crown, and steel bracelet have all been given a redesign: The case’s new profile is intended to give a slimmer impression — though the brand hasn’t disclosed specific measurements. Each model has options of blue, black, or gray dials and is offered on a steel bracelet or a range of straps, including bands in several new materials to accompany the new cases.
Both models are expected to be priced in line with previous versions — the 41mm Big Crown ProPilot Big Date is priced starting around $1,700 on a strap, while the 44mm Big Crown ProPilot Big Day Date begins at $1,900.
