The IIHS has announced its Top Safety Pick Awards for 2020. Mazda led the way, with five vehicles grabbing the top-level Top Safety Pick+ designation. Hyundai Motor Group had the most nominations overall, with 14 cars earning either Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ — including one of our new favorites, the Kia Telluride.
American manufacturers, however, did not fare as well. Only two American cars — the Cadillac XT6 and the Tesla Model 3 — received a Top Safety Pick+ rating. In fact, only six of the 64 total award winners were American cars.
Still, that does give you some options if you want to buy domestic and your top priority is safety. Check out the American-sourced award-winning vehicles below.
