Jeep Quietly Created a New Top-of-the-Line Wrangler

Sometimes, car manufacturers still manage to surprise us. Recently, Jeep added a new Rubicon Recon trim for the Wrangler by quietly debuting it on the configurator on its website. It’s a new, more-badass off-roading trim that further enhances the offerings from the Wrangler Rubicon.
With a starting price of $46,380 for the four-door Unlimited version, it starts at more than $4,000 above the standard Rubicon — making it the new top-of-the-line trim for the Jeep Wrangler.
The Rubicon Recon adds Moab rock rails, front and rear steel bumpers, 17-inch two-tone wheels, 33-inch mud-terrain tires and LED lighting to the Rubicon. The trim tweaks the aesthetics with a black grille, unique badging and black accents around the vehicle. It also includes flashy red seat belts for the interior.
There is a twist, though: this new trim only comes with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. That means you can’t get a manual transmission, the new torque-heavy EcoDiesel engine, or the new plug-in-hybrid powertrain if you have your heart set on the Recon.
Still, that high starting point means you can push the Rubicon Recon north of $60,000 when you load it up with options. It’s not the most expensive Wrangler you can make, though; with the diesel engine and a broader array of Mopar goodies, we were able to push a fully-loaded version of the standard Rubicon to nearly $67,000 on Jeep’s configurator. Hey, it’s practically a bargain.
