Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • At least 5+ years editing and managing in a fast paced, deadline oriented editorial environment for a news or lifestyle publication, preferably in a men’s interest outlet
  • Experience hiring and managing writers and editors in a growth environment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and a creatively ambitious manager and writer
  • An instinctive knowledge of CMS tools and in particular, WordPress and HTML

The Copy Editor will collaborate with other Editors and writers on editorial and content studio projects, both online and in print. The Copy Editor is responsible for ensuring correct grammar and spelling as well as consistent style across all platforms. This role reports to the deputy managing editor of the site.

Editorial Apprenticeship Program

Job Description:

Editorial Apprentices are the Swiss Army Knife of Gear Patrol’s editorial team tasked with developing their writing, production and communication skills while actively contributing to editorial, affiliate and native advertising and content studio strategies. As junior members of the editorial team, apprenticeship tasks range from pitching and writing content, to assisting with research, production and coordination of other larger initiatives.

This unique nine month learning and working program is designed as a gateway into the media business for post-college graduates or experienced professionals looking for a career change. Editorial Apprenticeships often lead to full-time jobs at Gear Patrol
As with all our roles, the candidate should be passionate about products in a specific area we cover (outdoors, tech, motoring, home, travel gear, watches and style), be a self-starter, maintain a nimble mindset, operate independently, and be a lightning-quick communicator.
This role reports into a Staff Writer or Assistant/Associate/Senior Editor.

Spaces are limited and available on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Help grow Gear Patrol’s audience and brand reputation across all relevant properties
  • Support assigned desk teams by assisting with story research and production tasks
  • Produce assigned editorial, native advertising and content studio stories

Editorial Internship

We have several full-time or part-time openings for Editorial Internships to support both our digital and print efforts. The internship places matriculated students or recent grads in an intensive, immersive editorial experience.

The ideal candidate relentlessly pursues excellence. Typos and pixel-level errors must be your enemy. Intelligence, inspiration and irreverence must drive your writing and visual storytelling. Applicants must demonstrate a keen ability for story development, discovery and technical savviness (nerds welcome).

We have several full-time or part-time openings for Design/Photography Internships to support both our digital and print efforts. The internship places matriculated students or recent grads in an intensive, immersive design/photography experience.

This isn’t your typical design internship where the only expectations are simply to organize folders, crop images and work on imaginary projects. Our goal is to transform matriculated students or recent graduates into strong designers, confident photographers and powerful storytellers.

The ideal candidate lives and breathes creativity. A clear understanding of typography and grid systems is a must. You must a be a conceptual thinker able to work independently and see every project to the finish with relentless focus. You must move fluidly between print and digital mediums in a fast-paced environment and be receptive to feedback from senior team leaders. Egos/negative attitudes need not apply.

Duties will encompass design, typography and photography in the creation of original content aligned with our brand principles. All candidates must be proficient in the latest Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and in operating a DSLR. Candidates must have a strong command of WordPress (including basic HTML and CSS), editorial layouts and design, and a working knowledge of digital video tools.

Social Apprentices are the Swiss Army Knife of Gear Patrol’s social media and audience development team. They are tasked with developing their coordination, production, monitoring, analytical, and communication skills while actively contributing to our growing presence on social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Flipboard and Apple News) and email newsletters. As junior team members, the focus of this role will be assisting, researching, scheduling, production, and coordinating larger initiatives.

This unique nine-month learning and working program is designed as a gateway into the media business for post-college graduates or experienced professionals looking for a career change. Apprenticeships often lead to full-time jobs at Gear Patrol.

As with all our roles, the candidate should be passionate about products in a specific area we cover (outdoors, tech, motoring, home, travel gear, watches and style), be a self-starter, maintain a nimble mindset, operate independently, and be a lightning-quick communicator.

This role reports to the Social Media Editor. Spaces are limited and available on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Help grow Gear Patrol’s audience and brand reputation across all relevant properties.
  • Work with social media team and editorial team to publish and schedule editorial content to Gear Patrol’s various channels as needed or planned.
  • Work with social media team to post and schedule all native advertising and content studio campaigns to Gear Patrol’s various channels as needed.
  • Coordinate exclusive social media content across assigned platforms.

Requirements:

  • A love of product, men’s lifestyle, and service journalism
  • BA in English, writing, journalism or equivalent experience
  • Experience with email newsletter tools a plus

  • Previous experience writing or self-publishing some kind of work
  • A strong sense of urgency
