After being out of print for what seems like an eternity, The Beatles’ 1968 animated hit, Yellow Submarine has finally been digitally restored for DVD and Blu-ray. Getting the Blue Meanies all primped up and ready for their 1080p debut apparently was no easy feat. In fact, each frame of the film was restored by hand without the aid of automated software. All of that attention to detail should spell good news for viewers looking to reabsorb the fantastical lava-lamp color schemes set to the sounds and scenes of the late ’60s piloted, of course, by The Beatles (err…or their voice actors).

To help commemorate the event, Candlewick Press is also releasing a new compact hardcover edition of the Yellow Submarine picture book as well. The 40-page book features the film’s script alongside original artwork from the movie and will be sold via the Beatles Store. An interactive digital version of the book is also available as a free download on Apple’s iBookstore for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch at iTunes/TheBeatles. We recommend stocking your munchy pantry before diving into any of it.
