Tap-It-cap-Gear-Patrol TapIt Cap
Craft brews are important. They’re good to drink, they’re good to make, they’re good to know about. Thing is, they’re also good to savor. Until the TapIt came along, growlers of beer would go flat before a measured drinker could work his way through the whole thing. TapIt is a screw-top tap made especially for growlers and includes a CO2 canister to keep things pressurized and fresh. $45
Pop-Up-Flea-Menswear-Gear-Patrol The Pop Up Flea In London
Those lucky chaps guys in London get their mitts on the Pop Up Flea before us Yanks (it’ll be in NYC this December). The three-day event (October 11-13) features many new and vintage menswear staples, including but not limited to Aether, Levi’s Made & Crafted, Filson, Todd Snyder and Red Wing. It’s an opportunity for each vendor to design their own mini store in whatever way is most conducive to making customers more outfitted and fashionable. Cheers to that. thepopupflea.com
Snow-Joe-Cordless-iON-Electric-Snow-Blower-Gear-Patrol Snow Joe iON Cordless Electric Snow Blower
You know how snow blowers work; you know how things that use batteries work. Now they work in tandem. The iON will run for up to 45 minutes on a charge, cutting 18-inch swaths of snow up to 8 inches deep. There’s an LED headlight, swiveling snow throw chute and a 2-year warranty. You’d be the envy of your neighborhood if only anyone on the block could hear the thing. $400
Autodromo-Prototipo-And-Prototipo-Vic-Elford-Edition-Gear-Patrol Autodromo Prototipo Vic Elford Edition
Made to honor racing greats from the ’60s and ’70s — a time when actual chronographs (not lasers and radar and satellites) were used to measure lap times — Autodromo’s new line is race-ready. The special edition honors Porsche racing great Vic Elford specifically, its vintage-inspired chronograph celebrating Elford’s win at the 1968 Targa Florio race in Sicily. During that race, Elford was at times over 18 minutes behind but won by nearly 4 minutes, breaking his own records while doing so. Colors recall his prototype racer, there’s a map of the course on the back, only 224 pieces will be sold (the same number as Elford’s car) and Elford’s hand-signed booklets included with each purchase. $775
Nest-Smoke-Detector-Gear-Patrol Nest Smoke And Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Nest, known for their excellent thermostat, have flexed their innovative muscles once more, this time in response to the epidemic of “my smoke detector is annoying, so I’ll pull the batteries out” attitudes. First off, it looks stellar. If smoke or CO levels begin to rise, Nest will sound a verbal “heads up” alarm and glow yellow, alerting you via smartphone and/or tablet too, and give you the option to silence the alarm (if it’s all just from the toaster, for instance) with a simple gesture — deliberately waving your arm. If the levels rise further or more quickly, a true alarm sounds and the device glows red to signify an emergency. The alarm integrates with your Nest thermostat, which will automatically shut down your gas furnace in the event of an emergency; it includes a gentle motion-sensing nightlight for nocturnal adventures, too. $129
Samsung-M7-Wireless-speaker-Gear-Patrol Samsung Shape Wireless Multiroom Speaker
Straightforward concept here: this speaker connects to your home’s wi-fi and you control what it plays via an app. Link multiple Shape speakers to each other (wirelessly) or use Samsung’s Hub device to do the linking. Multiple apps — Pandora, Rhapsody, etc. — jibe with the speakers, and your current stored music library will play well too. A “Foam Core Woofer, CNT pulp mid-range speakers and silk dome tweeters” work in harmony to produce sweet, sonorous pleasantries to every room of your abode. $400
Roots-Fall-Collection-Gear-Patrol Roots Fall Apparel And Accessories
Despite what most everyone believes (and despite several sightings that seems to all but prove the contrary), Canadians don’t actually look like Terrance and Phillip from South Park. They don’t have two-part skulls and are not barely embellished line drawings — though they do sound similar. Need proof? Have a look at the guys wearing sharp duds on Roots’ website. More importantly, check out the duds: their new line of fall accessories like Cabin Socks, touchscreen gloves and much more are all great autumn wear. usa.roots.com
