Gosh this story makes me hate you guys.. all that pampering. Wishing I could find such a place in Houston, TX. If I do I will be sure to rub it in as much as your above article does
There's a similar place called Hair M with two locations in downtown Portland, OR and in the suburb of Beaverton, OR. I love my good old-fashioned barber, but every once and a while I'll go to Hair M for a shave and haircut when I've got something fancy coming up. In fact, I'm going there tonight for a wedding this weekend.
any hope for an john allan coming out to the west coast?
Dan, we hear there are some rumblings about a possible West Coast location… I'll have to get back with you on that one though.
jealous! i've been wanting to do this for a while. i'm glad the experience was a positive one.
What kind of tip (if any) do/did you leave? Also whom would you tip if so many differnt people are "working" on you?
Good question - and one I asked during my first venture. Tips vary can vary based on your length of stay or services you receive. On average, I spend about $20 in tips on each "full service." $10 to the hairstylist, $4 to the shoe shine/bartender and $6 to shampoo/manicure. You can leave the tips discreetly in little envelopes, found on the reception desk as you exit.
I wish Knoxville had something like this. Currently my man-pampering consists of giving myself a haircut with my own clipper #2 haha

There isn't a dearth of grooming locations for men in Knoxville, though its worth checking out the Lovell Heights Barber shop in Farragut. It's quintessential barbershop right down to the old fashioned soda machine and free coffee.
I am stoked to see Bob Watt getting the credit he deserves here on GP.
GP, I was hoping I would never see the day that you started using the double underlined links. Obviously advertising is necessary to operate a website but there are few things I hate more when trying to read an article and having pop-ups appear every time my curser scrolls over the text. I’m begging you please get rid of them!!
Sincerely Disappointed,
Chris
Thanks for the feedback Chris. Feel free to send along any of these types of feedback to sayhello@gearpatrol.com. Trust me, they will go heard.
As for the links themselves, we're experimenting with a few things. We won't deny that things are still a work in progress for us. We are, after all still in beta with this site.
Looking forward to your thoughts on John Allan as well.
^^^ agreed! though some browsers have add ons to remove them, I don't always use said browsers. They are very disappointing, indeed. Nothing makes a user's web experience more frustrating than those ads.
Well maybe flash, but that's another topic.
I tipped $10 bucks to the hair dresser, and $5 to the manicurist. However if I was a regular I doubt it would tip that much all the time, especially considering that you don't necessarily have to get the full service every time you go in.
Chris & Alan,
Thanks so much guys for sharing your opinion. We really do value feedback on the site, even when it's not the most flattering news. Just know that we are constantly working to improve your experience here at Gear Patrol, both in the way the site functions and in the content department. We have to make some pretty tough choices sometimes, but we press on, hoping that if we do a really, really good job, we'll get called in to patch up the economy once we've made the internet safe and happy for all mankind.
Dusty
i am also to try in it but this frustrate me.
Sounds awesome. For anyone who lives in Sydney you can get a similar pampering and a sweet cut-throat shave at Patrick's of Sydney in Bondi Junction.
