About: I joined Gear Patrol because I love searching for gear in my free time, and I felt the need to pass on my knowledge. As an avid reader of everything online, my bookmark list is about as bloated as George Costanza’s wallet; needless to say, my tastes are eclectic. So, readers, prepare yourselves for variety.
That said, I know that you work hard for your disposable income, so if I recommend something you can be sure I’ve done the research to know that it’s worth your while.
Outside of the gear, I am a born and bred New Englander who recently completed a 2 year stint below the Mason-Dixon Line, and I’m glad to have the Sox and Pats on local programming again (Please refrain from any TB Rays or NY Giants jokes). I’m also a Social Media dork so feel free to hit me up on Twitter @jongaffney.
I graduated not too long ago with a BS in Marketing and, according to my friends, an MS in the History Channel. As a collegiate athlete, my interest and passion for sports and fitness has carried with me. I’m always up for an adrenaline fix whether it’s from the gym, from skydiving, or from an intense game of ultimate.
That’s me in a nutshell, and if any one has suggestions, comments, disagreements, or something you think I should review just shoot me an email. Slainte!See Authors Posts (61) on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 | Email To A Friend

Rock Band and its main rival Guitar Hero are sort of a big deal, if you hadn’t heard already. For the most competitive faux rockers, the Mad Catz Fender Stratocaster is the ultimate Rock Band controller. Based on a legit Fender Strat body, it’s gotten the Dr. Frankenstein treatment, being reborn as the clear superior to any plastic wannabe instrument. The Mad Catz Stratocaster is perfect for living out your Rock Star fantasies, giving you the weight and feel of a real guitar, plus the heritage of Hendrix, Lennon, and Clapton. The Mad Catz Fender Stratocaster is decked out with:

- Premium Fret Buttons and Strum Bar
- Wireless connectivity
- Overdrive Stomp Box compatibility
- Metal Tuning Keys and Bridge
- Official Fender high-gloss polyester paint job
- Compatible with Rock Band, Rock Band 2, The Beatles: Rock Band, Guitar Hero 4 & 5, DJ Hero, Band Hero
We subjected the Mad Catz Fender Stratocaster to a Rock Band jam session recently and thoroughly enjoyed the more realistic experience. Plus, we didn’t feel like we were hunched over a ukulele, a big bonus after two hours playing. Do the same and your back, not to mention your Rock Band rep, will thank you.

Editor’s Note: Go here for a video walk through of the Mad Catz Stratocaster.
Cost: $300
I don't get it. $300 for a hunk of plastic? I picked up a real american strat (lightly used) for just a little more than that. All the time spent playing a button game could be applied to a real instrument, which is a dying art due to these games. Come on guys put down the controller and join me in keeping music alive! Especially with recent passing of Les Paul, a man you should pay homage to on this site and every time you pick that piece of plastic that replicates something someone really put a pick to to entertain you.

$300 for a MIA strat? Bullshit. MAYBE a MIM for that price. And I can definitely confirm these games are creating lots of budding young musicians on the scene.
A dying art due to these games? I think you should talk to some guitar instructors and ask if more kids are taking lessons now due to these games. I think you'll find they've increased interest in playing instruments as opposed to decreasing.
Totaly agree mate!
People should start playing more real instruments, than plastic (if I may say it) crap!
I'm a pro bassist. When I tried to play guitar hero, my seven years old cousin beated me. I don't think that plastic stuff is near a guitar, just try to pick one real guitar (or bass) and do something with it. Just my opinion.
guys what is really shocking is that the sell these toys in guitar stores!! like Guitar Center!! these toys can never replace real instruments!!

Normally I'd agree but its not actually plastic. the whole thig is made from the same materials as fender guitars, it's just the insides that have been ripped ouf and "controllerised". Still I wouldn't pay $300 for it though as it is what it is, a premium controller for a video game.
