Winter is the number one destroyer of patio furniture. Well at least that sounds like a slogan some wood finishing or furniture cover sellers would promote. Whether its true or not though, if you’re outdoor setup was ravaged by the elements during the off season, the Sawyer Adirondack from CB2 ($250) is an attractive chair replacement option. Built as a slightly modern twist on the lodge classic, this version is made from eco-friendly sustainable eucalyptus wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Sold only in grey, buyers will need to oil it periodically to maintain the shade, otherwise time will give it a silvery-grey patina. However as with most adirondack’s, with good care they can last for many summers to come.

In between browsing his 437 bookmarks in Firefox, beating the hell out of his trusty 12? MacBook (yup, it’s still soldiering on) and Nikon D70 on his latest adventure, or just gearing up for the next home project, Ethan feels that he pretty much embodies the Gear Patrol lifestyle. In summary, his love of gear, technology, and the projects on which to properly and improperly utilize them knows no bounds. Having explored most of Europe (Western and Eastern) and the Americas (North and South), Ethan considers himself a well-traveled kinda guy. He’s also willing to admit that nothing beats the comfort of his leather chair, beloved McIntosh sound system, girlfriend’s love and patience, smoking up his apartment with a cast-iron burger (recipe to be shared soon enough), American muscle (cars), or looking for the NGP (Next Great Product). As an expatriate of the West Coast (hometown: Arcadia, CA) now living in New York, Ethan hopes to ingratiate bi-coastal love from his fellow Gear Patrol readers (unlike the Westside Connection album currently playing on his iPod). Oh, and in case you’re wondering, he’s passed on the whole iPhone hullabaloo and instead uses a ruggedized GSM based Sonim XP1. It’s far better at withstanding being run over by buses and Hoveround-driving seniors. In addition to checking out and sharing an abundance of content for Gear Patrol, Ethan will be focused on not only discovering and sharing the latest out there for guys, but spending his fair share of time weeding out the crap. And, by God, there’s a lot of it. If its worth his time, he’ll let you know. To his editors’ chagrin, he’ll also be using a liberal dose of parenthetical notations.
