Baselworld, the biggest watch event of the year, is happening now at the Messe Basel in Basel, Switzerland. We’ve got a team on the ground, there to bring you the most exciting releases. Follow our coverage here, and also be sure to check out Instagram. We’ll be posting to our feed throughout the week.

Verdict: Since the Longines Legend Diver, a reissue of a ’60s Longines dive watch, debuted in 2007, it has been a perennial favorite in the brand’s lineup. Over the years, it’s gotten different tweaks and additions, and this year the brand is giving it a PVD black case and a black rubber straps textured to look like metal mesh. Longines also updated the movement, replacing the old ETA 2824 with a new Longines tuned version of the ETA A31.L01. There’s no drastic difference other than an upgraded power reserve, now 64 hours (versus 38).

And that’s pretty much it. The rest of the watch remains the same: the domed crystal, the rotating bezel and the dial design all remain. This is a good thing, but the addition of an all-black design certainly modernizes this otherwise overtly vintage watch. It’s a relatively small change that ultimately makes a big difference.

Who It’s For: The standard Legend Diver has always been appealing to style-savvy individuals both for its vintage design and the fact that it cleans up better than most divers (thanks to its internal rotating bezel). If anything, that appeal is bolstered here by the trendier all-black design.

Key Features: PVD black case treatment. Internal rotating bezel. Water-resistant to 300 meters.

Size: 42mm diameter

Movement: Longines L888.2 (Base ETA A31.L01)

Release Date: TBD

Price: TBD, though other versions of the Legend diver retail between $2,300 and $2,650.
