Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar

This Fascinating Soundbar Is Also a Complete Surround Sound System

January 8, 2019 Tech By

It seems to be a running theme that products revealed at last year’s CES, are being reannounced at this year’s CES, only this time with an exact release. That was the case with LG’s first rollable TV, the Signature OLED TV R, and that is the case with the Sennheiser’s first-ever speaker, the Ambeo Soundbar. The crazy cool soundbar has 13 total drivers — six four-inch woofers, five tweeters and two top-firing speakers — and is designed to create a completely immersive experience.

As mentioned, Sennheiser has finally revealed pricing and availability information for its first-ever soundbar: the Ambeo Soundbar will be available this coming May for $2,499. Yes, it’s one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive, soundbars that you can buy. But Sennheiser promises that you’re getting an unmatched listening experience.

Unlike traditional 2.0 soundbars, or 2.1 soundbars which are also decked out with a wireless subwoofer, the Ambeo soundbar is an incredible 5.1.4 speaker that’s, surprisingly, basically the same size as most other soundbars that you’ll find. With its six woofers, it’s able to produce incredibly low bass (30hz), while its top-firing speakers create virtual height channels so you’re able to get a completely immersive experience.

The Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar is compatible with Dolby Atmos, which you’d expect from such a high-quality speaker, and it also has built-in Bluetooth and supports Google Cast, so when you’re not watching something, streaming music to it should be simple enough. I haven’t had the chance to listen to Sennheiser’s first soundbar yet, although I did listen to its prototype last year and I was blown away.

It’s a soundbar designed to take the place of a full surround sound system, meaning you don’t have to set up and configure all those extra speakers around your TV room, and for some space-limited enthusiasts, I’m guessing $2,499 won’t sound like that much.
