Editor’s Note: Normally $100, the Brother HL-L2350DW laser printer is currently on sale for $80.

Laser printers are nothing new. They were invented in 1969, and everyone from IBM to Apple has had a go at them. For most of their history, however, they weren’t something most people could afford. The first sub-$1,000 laser printer was released by HP in 1990. Fast forward to the present and you can get a solid laser printer for $100, the exact price of our favorite model: Brother HL-L2350DW.

So why buy a laser printer over a cheaper inkjet? Easy: Laser printers use toner rather than ink, and they boast faster printing speeds and have longer lifespans. They’re better at handling the heavier workload of business life, such as printing contracts, research papers, postage labels, books or even medical documents.

The Brother HL-L2350DW is a monochrome laser printer that’s affordable, dependable, efficient and easy to use. It works with Windows, macOS and Linux, so it can be integrated into any home office setup. TechGearLab‘s Max Mutter calculated that the Brother HL-L2350DW printed pages at about $0.03 per page or $12.92 per ream of paper, making it a laser printer with “one of the lowest estimated lifetime costs.”

The Brother HL-L2350DW isn’t the most advanced printer in the world. It’s a few years old and can’t produce the same level of detail and image quality as other printers — which cost two or three times the price. It also can’t print anything in color. But if want a simple and dependable printer for your home office, this is what you want.
