There’s Only One Place to Get Lagavulin’s New Whisky

August 20, 2019 Drinks By

A mile from Laphroaig in one direction and Ardbeg in another, Lagavulin Distillery can be found on the southeastern edge of Islay, firmly in Scotland’s peat zone. The smallest of Scotland’s designated whiskey-making regions is known for churning out the smokiest scotches in the world. Now, Lagavulin completionists (or Parks & Rec loyalists) have another to hunt down: Lagavulin 10-year.

Aged for a decade in American oak casks and cut to a Scotch-standard 86 proof, the distillery’s new expression is a permanent fixture in its portfolio going forward. There’s only one problem — you can only find it at airports.

According to a press release, Lagavulin’s latest will be sold exclusively at Dufry Travel Retail stores, a duty-free chain with locations around the world. The distillery says its best poured neat or with water, and describes the flavor as “fiery yet light, smoky yet smooth.” It will retail for around $60 everywhere it’s available.
