While Mystery Ranch is well-known for supplying bags to the US military, wildland firefighters and the forest service, one of its best-selling backpacks is an everyday carrier called the Urban Assault. The pack is so popular because it draws on the elements that work for those hardcore operators: durability, accessibility and support. Recently, Mystery Ranch updated the Urban Assault’s design to make it even more functional for life around town in a new 24-liter model.

The Urban Assault 24L isn’t significantly larger than its predecessor (that bag comes in 18- and 21-liter sizes), but it does pack a lot more functionality. For instances, it features a separate laptop compartment that provides access without digging through the main compartment, and exterior water bottle pockets, which move that bulky item to a less obtrusive position. Mystery Ranch took advantage of that extra space in the main compartment with more internal sleeves and pockets for all the other things you carry every day.
