SLOPING ROOF AND 600 HP
The Next Generation of Audi’s Baddest Sport Sedan Is About to Be Revealed
On Thursday, Audi posted a “sneak peek” of its Frankfurt Motor Show exhibition booth layout to Facebook . The photo confirmed that Audi will reveal the new version of the RS 7 Sportback along with the badass electric off-roader concept next week.
Audi has already launched new versions of the base A7 and the higher performance S7. The highest-performance “Renn Sport” or “Racing Sport” RS 7 version was only a matter of time. These cars are a styling variant of the A6 line, on with a super-trendy sloping “sportback” roof that makes it a cross between a sedan and a hatchback. The intent is to be cooler than the former (sedans don’t sell well these days) and able to be more expensive than the latter (no one would pay $100,000-plus for a hatchback).
Audi already showed us the RS 6 Avant wagon in August. That car should offer a solid preview of how the front end of the RS 7 Sportback will look; we’ve only seen the Sportback under camouflage so far.
The RS 7 will also likely share mechanical components with the Avant, namely the 592-horsepower 4.0-liter V8. As with the Avant, that would be down a bit from the previous generation RS 7’s 605 hp. A reasonable price tag probably would be a bit north of the $113,900 starting price the last generation had.
The RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback are two of the six new RS models Audi says it’ll be launching in 2019. We don’t yet know how many will be bound for the U.S., but this is a good start.
