Mk II Hawking AGL

One of Our Favorite Affordable Military Watches Just Got an Update

We’re big fans of Philadelphia-based MKII Watches under the design direction of Bill Yao — if you love military watches but don’t want to beat the shit out of, you know, an actual mil-spec, issued timepiece while swimming, fishing, shooting, climbing, etc, Bill’s products are what you should wear instead. They take all the best parts of the mil-spec watches of yesteryear (some of which, like the Benrus Types I and II, were only ever issued to special operations personnel in extremely limited quantities) and update them with modern materials, all at prices that are eminently affordable. What else could you want?

The newest iteration of the MKII Hawkinge line, based on the famed Mk. XI manufactured by IWC and JLC, is the Hawking AGL, a non-limited version of the special edition Hawkinge HALO LE developed in collaboration with Robert Spangle of Thousand Yard Style (Spangle is himself a veteran Force Recon. Marine).

Building upon the classic Mk. XI footprint, the new Hawkinge AGL features an outer minute/second track with inner 12-hour track for precise timing, large sword hands with yellow-tipped sweep seconds hand and a mix of blue and green lume to help differentiate the hands and indices in the dark. It’s powered by the Seiko automatic NE15C movement and encased in a 37.8mm brushed stainless steel case with oversized screw-down crown, AR-treated sapphire crystal and 100m of water resistance

Subtle albeit noticeable differences between the AGL and the standard Hawkinge help the design to stand out, but like the standard Hawkinge, it’s available with multiple strap options (leather or two colors of NATO), features drilled lugs and a screw-down crown an case back and is timed to three positions, all for a very reasonable $595.
