A Great Reason to Update Your iPhone

This Is the Coolest New iPhone Feature You Haven’t Heard About

Editor’s Note: Unsure if you should update to the new iPhones? Check out our reviews the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro.

If you’re an iPhone owner, you’re probably feeling a bit conflicted right now. That’s because, on one hand, iOS 13 rolled out today, September 20th, and many early reviews, such as EverythingApplePro’s YouTube Channel, are calling it “the biggest, baddest and best iOS update to happen to your iPhone in a very long time.” But on the other hand, you should probably wait to download iOS 13 because it’s super buggy, as several reviewers (such as The Verge‘s Chaim Gartenberg) have pointed out. Apple has seemingly recognized this fact, too: the company announced that you’ll be able to download the iOS 13.1 update next week, on September 24th, which is a week ahead of schedule.

So yes, you might be a bit torn on whether to download iOS 13 or not right now, but one this is certain: come next week, when the bugs are fixed, you should definitely download it. That’s because iOS 13 is going to be the best software update your iPhone has experienced in years. (Reminder, iOS 13 is available on all iPhone 6s and later models, that includes iPhone SE). iOS 13 has a bunch of killer features, such as Dark Mode, a new Photos app, an improved Apple Maps and just a way snappier interphase, but one of its coolest new features is likely one that you haven’t heard about: Audio Sharing.

The new Audio Sharing feature allows two sets of wireless headphones to pair to the same iPhone or iPad so that they can listen to the same audio. It’s essentially a wireless and free version of everybody’s favorite dongle from yesteryear: the headphone splitter.

The catch is that Audio Sharing only works with wireless headphones that have Apple’s H1 or W1 chips built into them; this means both first- and second-generation AirPods will about to do it, as well as the latest wireless headphones by Beats: including Powerbeats Pro, Studio3 Wireless, BeatsX, Powerbeats3 Wireless and Solo3 Wireless. Also, Audio sharing requires an iPhone 8 or above, so if you have an iPhone or iPad that’s over three years old, you won’t be able to access Audio Sharing even if your device is running iOS 13.

Audio Sharing needs to be activated through the Bluetooth menu in Settings. It will be available on compatible Beats headphones on Monday, September 23rd.
