Ikea’s Updated App Makes Furniture Shopping Way, Way Easier

September 23, 2019 Home By

Ikea’s famously bloated in-store shopping experience is mirrored online. There are too many options to sift through, the search function is lacking and the lingering fear of buying furniture that doesn’t go well together is ever-present. Launched this morning, the Swedish home giant is offering a free solution to one of those issues.

The old version of Ikea’s augmented reality app, Ikea Place, was only able to browse the Ikea catalog and place one 3D model in a room at a time. This limits its use to tasks like dropping a club chair into your living room to see how it fits with everything else you have and comparing again. The new version, available today on the App Store and the Google Play Store, adds the ability to view more than one product at a time and a host of other handy features.

Ikea says you’ll also be able to view “Room Sets,” which are bundles of products laid out similar to the manner they’re found in showrooms at Ikea stores. There’s also a new Wishlist function which users can add products to and recall into the app more quickly and a feed of decor inspiration curated by Ikea according to products or room categories you’ve viewed in the past. The update is live on all versions of the app now.
