Ulysse Nardin could be said to have multiple personalities — the brand is at once known for its early marine chronometers as well as for pioneering avant-garde modern watchmaking. Yet another side of Ulysse Nardin can be seen in its collection of luxury dive watches, among which are particularly hardcore examples such as the 1,000m-water-resistant Deep Dive. Partnering with the non-profit One More Wave, the latest Deep Dive features a blacked-out case and dial with pops of sporty yellow.
One More Wave was founded by ex-U.S. military personnel to offer veterans therapy through surfing, including by offering special accommodations to those who were wounded in combat. Ulysse Nardin offers financial support and also helps raise awareness via this special edition watch.
All-black and 46mm wide, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive “One More Wave” watch is clearly built in the military mold. While chunky in its measurements, the case is made from lightweight titanium to improve wearing comfort, and it’s black color is achieved by a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating. The 2 o’clock crown is protected by a hinged cover, giving the watch an overall asymmetric, function-first look, and the crown at 9 o’clock is a decompression valve — which is generally only used by saturation divers.
The Ulysse Nardin in-house UN-320 automatic movement inside incorporates silicon components and offers roughly three days of power reserve. Limited to 100 pieces and a USA exclusive, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive “One More Wave” comes on a black rubber strap and has a price of $13,500.
