Lance Camper is debuting its latest adventure build, the Altimeter, at the 2019 SEMA show in Las Vegas this week. The Altimeter combines a tricked out Ford F-350 Super Duty with Lance Camper’s 855S truck camper to create the ultimate, go-anywhere, four-season camper.

The F-350 is not your standard 4×4 with a 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel engine; it’s loaded with all the off-roading accessories and modifications. It features a Stage 5 Suspension from Icon Vehicle Dynamics, which gives the truck a 2.5-inch lift. It has Hellwig Products front and rear sway bars for balance and air springs to raise the ride height when towing. It throws in KC Hilites LED lighting — and, should you get your camper in a sticky spot, a Warn winch.

Lance Camper’s 855S truck camper adds to the functionality, extracting maximum utility from the living space above the short truck bed. Its slide-out compartment creates a bench seat dinette, which can also convert into another sleeping area for a total overnight capacity of four. The truck camper also fits in a full wet bath and a kitchenette with a three-burner range, oven, and refrigerator.

Drooling profusely at this point? So are we. But there’s a catch: Lance Camper has made no mention of putting the Altimeter into production. Even if it did, it’s not hard to image imagine doing so would not be a cheap effort. The stock F-350 with the 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel alone costs north of $50,000, and that’s  before you tack on all the off-roading modifications. The Lance Camper 855S, at least from one dealer we found, would be another $50,000-plus addition.

If heavy-duty overlanding is your thing, FiftyTen’s midsize truck system could offer a more cost-effective pickup-based camper option. If you want a spartan, light-weight option, Adventure Trailers offers the Summit truck topper, which starts under $10,000.
