Last fall, Ford brought some spectacular Ranger concepts to the SEMA show. While those remain one-offs, you can buy something on par with those wild upgrade setups for your very own midsize pickup: California-based tuner Automotive Performance Group’s APG ProRunner Series 1 package, which enhances the Ranger’s off-road capability and provides some sweet appearance upgrades.
On the performance front, the ProRunner Series 1 package serves up a new long-travel suspension, which give sthe Ranger 12.5 inches of wheel travel and lets the truck accommodate 35-inch tires. (Buyers must provide shocks, tires, and wheels separately, however.)
On the appearance and functionality side, the ProRunner Series 1 package adds some hand-laid, vacuum-infused carbon fiber body panels to the mix. A widebody kit broadens the front fenders and bed sides for an additional 10 inches of beam. The Ranger also receives a carbon fiber fuel door and housing, and the package swaps in aluminum front and rear bumpers, with the former being winch capable. The APG kit includes front and rear flex lights from KC Hilites, as well as a roof rack with a light bar.
Buyers can add the APG ProRunner Series 1 package to both four-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive Rangers (though we’d suggest going 4WD, of course). Costs start at $10,573 for the parts, or $15,948 with installation and paint included. A 4×4 Ford Ranger starts at $28,570, so adding the APG mods would bring the cost into the $40,000s — right on par with what a well-equipped Jeep Gladiator will run you.
