One of the forever-revolving challenges of living out of your car in any capacity is the need to store and keep all of your gear organized. But most of all, protected from the elements. Especially if you’re into the overlanding scene.

But now, Pelican just revealed one of its cleverest solutions yet. In partnership with The Mounting Company, the iconic protective storage solutions brand just revealed its latest CRATE modular system. And it’s as awesome as it sounds.

Pelican’s new suite of CRATEs consists of two Series models, both of which vary in size: the 45L and 90L. In natural Pelican nomenclature, both the models designate the different sized holding capacities of each case.

As such, the “45L” offers up to 45 liters of storage, while the larger “90L” serves up 90 liters. But more importantly, the system boasts unique design elements both inside and out that boast flexible storage and mounting abilities. And it’s a first of its kind for the renowned brand.

Pelican also engineered its CRATE system to work with The Mount Company’s modular roof rack system. That allows for quick-release and snap-in mounting capabilities for anyone looking for a more organized, rugged and versatile roof-mounted storage system.

Meaning, these puppies can live atop of your overlanding rig while providing a safe, protective piece of mind for all of your things.

Available in two sizes, Pelican’s CRATE can be had in either 45-liter or 90-liter capacity.

The best part: Pelican rates both cases as dust-, crush- and waterproof with top-spec IP67 ratings. And according to the manufacturer, they can survival full water submersion for up to 30 minutes in up to three feet of water.

And as per typical Pelican protocol, the company tested and certified both cases to MIL-SPEC and ATA standards.

Toolless and quick-release capable

But in addition to Pelican’s signature protective properties, some of which have defined the brand’s reputation, the company’s partnership with The Mounting Company is where the CRATE system really shines.

When paired with The Mounting Company’s bespoke CR45 and CR90 mounting solutions, Pelican’s CRATEs snap right in. The system allows for quick and easy mounting and dismounting, all thanks to its toolless snap-in and quick-release locking mechanisms.

The CR45 and CR90 mounting racks are also resistant to corrosion. That’s thanks to their durable 316 stainless steel construction.

And better yet, the panels are compatible with a wide variety of roof rack storage units. They can also be mounted to all sorts of pickup truck beds and bed rack systems, SUV side-mounted MOLLE panels, and more.

Pelican also incorporated its own, in-house ModRail system. The latter also provides additional compatibility with other flexible mounting systems and surfaces.
