The Fisher Space Pen is one of the most important EDC writing utensils ever created. And since it has been aboard every manned NASA mission since the 1960s, including the moon landing, it is inextricably linked to American history.

That makes it the perfect vessel for a special edition honoring the USA’s 250th anniversary. However, the Fisher America 250 Cerakote Astronaut Space Pen isn’t just a novelty paint job. It also gets a sneaky, significant durability upgrade.

Obviously, the paint job honors the USA’s 250th anniversary, but it hides another robust bonus: a Cerakote finish.

Grand ol’ flag

Even a passing glance illustrates that this is a very different-looking pen from its classic chromed-out progenitor. But it is still very much a Fisher Space Pen at its core.

It boasts the same 5.12-inch length (when closed) and even has the same overall form factor, including the signature circular grip pattern down toward the tip.

It still, of course, writes upside-down, in zero gravity and underwater.

It also maintains its classic pocket clip and clicker deployment (with a push-button release on the side of the barrel). Perhaps more importantly, it maintains all the same classic functions: it writes upside-down, in zero gravity and underwater.

But there are also some big stylistic differences to the overall vibe, and that comes with another alteration you can’t see with the naked eye — one that adds even more robustness to this already formidable EDC pen.

American EDC

To honor the USA’s 250th anniversary, this pen has received a complete tip-to-tail American flag colorway, including vertical reinterpretations of the red and white stripes on the barrel and stars engraved up at the top, closer to the clicker.

There’s also a vintage vibe to this colorway, helped along by the more muted colors of the red and blue sections of the barrel in conjunction with the polished brass color of the details, including the pocket clip.

But that is also hiding the finish on the pen. This EDC writing utensil gets a Cerakote finish, an advanced, thin-film ceramic-polymer composite coating that makes it even tougher and more durable than its base brass material.

While the styling certainly does a lot of legwork in honoring the USA, it’s this Cerakote finish, alongside the pen’s other spectacular feature set, that elevates it even higher than ever before.

Of course, it also comes at a relatively high cost: $250 apiece. However, if you’re looking for the same styling at a more budget-friendly entry price, there are an abundance of other American flag motif pens included in this collection, as well.
