The first operational aircraft to be designed with stealth technology was the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk. This aggressive, angular stealth attack aircraft had a blistering maximum speed of 623 mph, could climb 2,820 feet per minute and was refuelable mid-flight.

While the Zero Tolerance 0117 is a different beast entirely (an EDC folder, obviously), it does share a designation and its inspiration with that stealth fighter. And that makes the perfect recipe for an outstanding gentleman’s knife.

Nighthawk EDC

While the design of a knife and a stealth jet are two very, very different things, you can see a bit of where they overlap in the 0117. For instance, the knife is pretty slender, but it is also angular and aggressive — traits it shares with the Nighthawk.

Luckily, the size of the svelte knife is much more manageable than its 29,500-pound counterpart. It measures 7.87 inches overall and weighs a remarkably low 1.9 ounces in total.

The total overall length is broken down as follows: 3.3 inches for its drop-point blade and 4.57 inches for the handle. And while you might think its heft comes at a cost, you’d be largely wrong.

In fact, its materials and mechanisms are nothing shy of spectacular. And they have all the makings of a future fan-favorite …

USA blade

Like all of Zero Tolerance’s offerings, the 0117 is made in the USA. That way, the brand can ensure an extremely high level of craftsmanship and, as the brand’s name suggests, virtually no manufacturing errors.

That bodes well for potential buyers, as the quality of craftsmanship is second only to the quality of the knife’s materials and mechanisms.

The blade, for instance, is made from what is more and more indisputibly the most popular steel on the market today: MagnaCut. Not only is it incredibly well-rounded, but it is also easy to care for, easy to maintain and won’t easily succumb to corrosion.

On the other side of the knife, the handle is made from carbon fiber. This material is as classic as they come and contributes both to the knife’s rigidity and strength, as well as its lightness and resistance to temperature changes, chemicals and more.

The knife also gets Kershaw’s DuraLock mechanism, the brand’s play on a crossbar, which is as sturdy and reliable as it is easy to operate.

And when you consider the knife’s thumb stud deployment and reversible pocket clip alongside the lock, you’ll see that this knife is also ambidextrous, giving it bonus points for versatility and accessibility.

You don’t need to drive a Mercedes-Benz to enjoy this knife, but it probably doesn’t hurt, either.
